A refreshing downpour of heavy rain unleashed itself on the small town of Forks, giving the sky a dull gray colouring and the earth a dampening soak. Within five minutes of the storm, the majority of those that had been enjoying the now departed fresh summer air had dashed indoors as quickly as possible, hoping to avoid a drenching. However, amongst the glistening branches and dripping leaves of the many acred forest, a figure wrapped in a black coat made it's way along the worn out path, a gentle smile etched across her ruby lips with a look of satisfaction sat firmly on her pale face. Esme Cullen, the coated figure, tightened the strap around her waist as she continued on her way, knowing that there was no apparant destination to her walking, and no set time for her to return. She had simpy been enticed by the sudden downpour, and had left the Cullen household in an instant. The carmal haired woman hadn't been walking long, but had remained at a natural pace, leaving her at about thirty minutes away from the house itself.
Although the rain showed no obvious sign of ceasing, Esme had already promised herself that should it stop, she would return in an instant, regardless of how adventurous she was feeling. It would not do well to get caught out in the sudden sunlight that often followed a beautiful storm, and the idea of this was enough to make the woman pause before turning slightly, so she was at least heading in a close enough direction to get back in time should she need to.
With each footstep she took, Esme decided that it could be useful to have a good, long think whilst away from the busy household. She had read in many books, and witnessed the behaviour of many individuals enough to know that being alone, and walking, was often used as a sanctuary for thoughts. However, regardless of how hard she tried, nothing worth thinking over would come to her. Firstly, she thought of the dangers accossiated with what her family was dealing with, but that simply gave her a borderline headache, so instead she turned to thinking of the joys that could soon grace them. However, this failed to occupy her either. Eventually, Esme ended up thinking about Carlisle, and wondering what he was doing while she was out enjoying the rain. Her thoughts then turned to what she'd be doing that evening as she decided trying to concentrate was just to hard.

it wasn't often that rosalie went off on her own. usually, she was with emmett, or shopping with alice. but today, she had just taken off. she had good reason to, for when she had looked in the mirror that morning, her eyes were jet black. she always put off hunting until the last moment, and with bella supposedly coming over that night, rosalie knew that she couldn't really take any chances. she loved edward, so she couldn't just attack and drink his girlfriend (ultimately ruining her perfectly clean record). that would be disastrous. dressing in a pair of jeans and a white blouse, the tall blonde slipped a pair of boots on and perched herself back in front of the mirror. her hands ran a brush through her golden-blonde locks, the hair straight today after alice had insisted she buy rose some straighteners. applying a little bit of eyeshadow and mascara to her dark eyes, she swept some gloss over her lips and sighed. why did she even bother? she was beautiful already.
leaving the house, rosalie ran into the forest, trying her hardest to keep away from any humans. why the wretched things had to be out hiking and exploring in the first place, she would never understand. how was she supposed to hunt in peace if they were all around. then again, with the volturi wanting to expose vampires, it wouldn't really matter now anyway. coming to a stop, soaked from the rain, rose watched a group of tourists wander off, able to smell their blood from where she was perched in the bushes. no. she wouldn't touch them. making sure the coast was clear, she bolted again, speeding up the path and through some more trees, eying a deer up ahead. all it took was a split second, and rosalie had it on the ground, her lips at its neck, draining it dry. the burning thirst in the back of her throat was slowly ebbing away now, her eyes starting to fade.
a noise behind her caused her to freeze though, rosalie not wanting to turn around, for fear of who it was. sighing at how stupid that sounded (she was a vampire after all, nothing could be more powerful than her), she turned her head to look and visibly relaxed when she saw it was esme. she knew esme enjoyed walking in the forest, especially in the rain - her mother looked so thoughtful and peaceful. giving the 'older woman' a smile, rosalie shrugged. "bella's coming over tonight. i didn't think it would be wise for me to end up drinking from her. a deer is much more... satisfying." her words were almost spat out, rosalie knowing that human blood was the ultimate taste, that a deer wasn't more satisfying. yes, if she was told she could (and if she wasn't a vegetarian), she would probably drink the delicious smelling blood that ran through bella's vein's. but rosalie had morals and couldn't hurt edward like that. so, she had to settle for this.
